My training and life experiences have provided a foundational approach that includes elements of art therapy, play therapy, relationship therapy, and therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. My experience with diverse populations has made me both culturally and gender sensitive. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, a member of the American Counseling Association, and a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. I am currently seeking certification as a sex therapist.
I grew up in central North Carolina on a cattle farm as an only child. I had a rich imaginary life through my books and play. I was always the kid who was more comfortable with adults than my peers, and often found myself as a confidant for all sorts of people. Throughout school and college, I was a “helper”- rescuing misunderstood people and abandoned animals.
I was the first in my family to attend college, and quickly found myself being drawn to the artists, the Bohemians, and the alternative lifestyles. Even as I pursued a BS in art, I minored in Psychology – always wanting to understand more about people. A brief stint as a Realtor made me realize my love for interior design, and I went back to college and got a second BS in Housing and Interiors. Nourishing my artistic soul, these passions also allowed me to cultivate a diverse and inspiring collection of individuals who sought me out for advice in their relationships, both personal and sexual.
After a successful interior design career, I went back to school again, and became certified to teach art, which I did for 2.5 years. Realizing my love for diverse populations, I went back to school again – (are you seeing a pattern here? I love learning!) – and received my Masters in Education in 2005. After teaching for many years, I still felt the need to counsel and help people even more. I later earned a second Masters-this time in Professional Counseling. My path as an artist and lifelong learner has instilled in me compassion, caring, and a nonjudgmental understanding to help you reach your goals!
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with Lilly and Bean, my two canine rescues. I also love reading, ballroom dancing, theatre, working out, arts, photography, and cooking. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly looking to learn new things and explore new areas. As a former ballroom dance instructor, I will always have a passion for creativity through movement. A recent transplant from Wilmington, NC to High Point, NC –I’m enjoying exploring the area and meeting new people!
I cannot wait to hear your story!
